A thoughtfully composed, asymmetric home designed to respond to the sun’s path throughout the day. Internal spaces are oriented accordingly: the master bedroom enjoys morning light to the east, utility and service areas are tucked to the north, and the heart of the home – a spacious, double-height kitchen, dining, and living area – opens to the west, making the most of afternoon and evening sun.
Constructed with a timber frame, the house features exposed oak portal frames in the main living space, adding warmth and rhythm to the interior. The exterior is wrapped in shou-sugi-ban cladding – a traditional Japanese technique that involves charring timber to create a durable, low-maintenance finish that naturally resists weathering.
This project was designed by KAST Architects. I contributed to the design and produced the visualisation while working at the practice.
